To be successful in life and becoming a world champion is part of that dream.” With his dismantling of the tough Jose Alfaro to capture the interim WBC lightweight title, the 24-year-old Antonio DeMarco (20-1-1, 14KO) of Tijuana, MX, by way of Los Mochis is well on his way on making good on his dream. Despite DeMarco’s lack of amateur experience of note, he has become one of the fighters to watch in the already star-studded 135 lbs. division. After leaving his home of Los Mochis, MX, at the tender age of fourteen to pursue his dream of being a professional fighter, DeMarco found his way to the CREA gym run by Romulo Quirarte Sr. and his sons, Bobby and Romulo Jr. Romulo Quirarte, a newspaper distributor by trade, has been training fighters for over thirty years with five time world champion Manuel “Mantecas” Medina, former bantamweight champion Raul “Jibaro” Perez, and the Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez among his hundreds of apprentices. The had hitting DeMarco jumped on the boxing radar in late 2007 when he defeated Nick Casal with a unanimous ten round decision in his first televised on Showtime. The southpaw DeMarco continued to develop on the cable network stopping the then undefeated Juan Castaneda in five rounds nine months later and then winning a tough split decision over Jose Reyes last September. Then came Raiymkulov. “It means a lot to me, it is my first belt, my first title. More than anything, like I always say, I am do this for my daughter and for my wife. They are a great motivation for me because I know that bigger things are coming,” DeMarco says. “We know that we must go to a higher level.
